Hi! I'm Collin. I'm from Alabama, but I live in Kentucky with my husband and our boyfriend. We are polyamorous, and I am genderqueer (I use any combination of he/she/they pronouns). It's nice to meet you!
My BA is in history of art, and I love traveling (especially by train!), as well as gardening, cats, good wine, and live music. I've been some combination of vegetarian/vegan for going on 10 years now, and I love veganizing new recipes.
Medieval and Renaissance paintings are my favorite, as well as high Gothic architecture, but I'm a big fan of the Rococo as well - painting and fiber arts (embroidery, tapestry). I spent my last semester of my undergrad in Salamanca, Spain, learning about Spanish art, history, and culture, and visiting new places every week.
I've only worked for nonprofits, from LGBTQ+ advocacy groups to food banks to, currently, a sustainable rural development NGO operating in Brazil, Peru, and Colombia. I'm a big fan of writing letters/cards, and actively volunteer to write letters to socially isolated senior citizens, hospitalized children, and inmates on death row or serving life sentences through the organizations Letters Against Isolation, Cards for Hospitalized Kids, and Write A Prisoner. I firmly believe in having empathy.
I also love board, card, and video games! Some of my favorites include Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and Disney Villainous; classic card games like Rummy, Hearts, and Spades; and retro (GameCube and older) games generally, but specifically Pokemon, Mario, and Super Smash Bros.
I don't watch a lot of TV or movies, but Avatar: The Last Airbender is my favorite show of all time. I mostly read nonfiction - I love reading history, religious texts/theology, biographies, and memoirs. I love writing too, and I have a few ideas I'll one day turn into books.
I've been to 12 countries so far - Canada, Scotland, England, Ireland, Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Malta, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. I want to go everywhere, but I've always felt called to Nepal, Bhutan, and Malaysia; I really hope to visit soon. I'm hoping to move to the Netherlands some time in the next year or so.
I've recently started embracing my affinity for postal systems, and am very excited to grow my budding collections of stamps, postcards, and currencies. I just love that, through the post, I can reach so much of the world from my little house in rural Kentucky. That's truly incredible, and I try to not take this for granted. I like displaying my collection in albums so I can remember all the connections and memories I've made with them, without feeling overwhelmed by "stuff." I think of my collection as my own little museum of correspondence and global participation and connection.
Lastly, I'm American by affliction; I am ashamed of my country, and I'm terribly nervous about where the US - and the rest of the world, consequently - are headed. And I am deeply, deeply sorry; I did not vote for this.
Happy postcrossing!
